Proclamations are read at the beginning of every regularly-scheduled Burlington City Council meeting.A proclamation is an official announcement issued by the Mayor to recognize exceptional events, groups, people, or achievements in the City of Burlington. Food for Life Food for GOOD Week: April 22-30, 2023Food for Life has been ensuring everyone has access to GOOD food since 1995. More than 4 million pounds of food is rescued and shared, while inedible food is returned to the earth through innovative onsite compost and diversion programs for food and packaging.

May 2023Jewish Heritage Month: May 2023The Jewish population of the City of Burlington reflects the rich and varied history of the Jewish people comprising a population tracing its origins to many different parts of the world and embracing the many different traditions and practices within Judaism.

Building Safety Month: May 2023Each year, in observance of Building Safety Month, people all over the world are asked to consider the commitment to improve building safety, resilience and economic investment at home and in the community, and to acknowledge the essential service provided to all of us by our building regulatory departments, fire prevention bureaus and national and international agencies in protecting lives and property.

Guillain-Barre Syndrome and Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (GBS-CIDP) Month: May 2023The month of May has been internationally designated as "GBS and CIDP Awareness Month" to educate the public and to focus attention on Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) and Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP), rare, paralyzing and potentially catastrophic disorders of the peripheral nerves.

National Doctors' Day: May 1, 2023As Ontario’s doctors continue to care for patients, raising flags and declaring proclamations in our communities has become a way of expressing our gratitude.

Canada Netherlands Friendship Day: May 5, 2023On the 6th day of May 2005, the City of Burlington and the City of Apeldoorn jointly declared their intentions to join as twin cities to create official bonds of friendship through a formal relationship. For this reason, Canada Netherlands Friendship Day on May 5 is even more special of a celebration for our city and residents.
