Provincial funding for the Wyecroft Road Extension and Bridge Project will help relieve traffic in Burlington and Oakville

The Provincial Government has announced it will be providing Halton Region with funding to support the Wyecroft Road Extension and Bridge Project. In July 2018, Regional Council approved this critical infrastructure project for the remaining funding of $57.6 million from the Move Ontario Quick Wins Fund.Currently, Wyecroft Road is disconnected at Bronte Creek with no way to cross over — local traffic is diverted north to the QEW or south through residential neighbourhoods. The new road extension and bridge crossing would connect Burlington and Oakville over Bronte Creek and provide much needed traffic relief the area needs.

Other important benefits of the infrastructure project will include:

• providing motorists with another route, relieving traffic congestion on local roads and the QEW;
• reducing commuter time getting to Appleby and Bronte GO stations;
• improving the bus network between GO stations, providing more options for commuters who rely on public transit;
• connecting adjacent employment lands, providing business owners, employees and consumers easier access to work and retail; and
• providing alternative transportation options with new on and off-road pedestrian and cycling infrastructure.

This much-needed project will bridge our communities of Oakville and Burlington, providing greater access and transportation options for our residents, and helping reduce congestion on the QEW by providing additional east-west connections.
