Technical Documents for Nelson Quarry Expansion Available - Feedback Welcome

The technical documents related to the Nelson Quarry Expansion are now available on the City of Burlington’s web page dedicated to this project. We welcome community input on these documents, and throughout this process.Residents may have recently received a mailed notice from the City of Burlington, and more recently from the community group CORE Burlington, requesting that feedback be delivered to the city by August 21. We have subsequently confirmed that because this application is under a unique process, the normal development deadlines do not apply. As such, the August 21 deadline to submit your feedback also does not apply. Please provide your input when you are able.Additionally, residents within 200 meters of Nelson Aggregates will have received a written notice from Halton Region advising that the applications from Nelson for an expanded quarry have been deemed “complete.” This notice also appeared in the Burlington Post and other local Halton newspapers (as seen at left).A separate notice will be mailed to the same distribution area once a public meeting is scheduled. The statutory public meeting will be scheduled following the completion of the technical review process. This would likely occur in late 2021 or early 2022 after this substantial staff review. We will ensure all residents in the rural area are notified of the time, date and location once scheduled. We are working with city and regional staff on a formalized communications plan related to this application that will include a more detailed outline of the steps in the process, timelines and opportunities for resident feedback. That is expected in the fall.We will also continue to communicate to all rural residents regardless of their proximity to the site itself by mail and email as this application moves through the process. As always, if you have any questions or feedback, please get in touch.Related Links:City of Burlington: Nelson Quarry ExtensionHalton Region: Mineral Aggregate Operations
