Please below my first Burlington Post guest column for 2021 that's already online and will appear in print in the Thursday, Jan. 21 print edition.--This year isn’t starting off exactly how we had hoped. We’re now in the worst of the COVID-19 crisis. We need to pull together and continue looking after each other and ourselves now more than ever.As our federal and provincial partners continue with the vaccine rollout, it’s crucial we continue following the advice of our medical health practitioners – stay home unless it’s essential, stick to members of your own household (unless you live alone and can choose an exclusive single household to join), wear masks, stay 2 m/6 ft. apart and continually wash and sanitize your hands.Thank you to all our Burlington residents who have been following these protocols from the start; you’re all doing your part and making sacrifices to help protect your family, friends, loved ones and even the folks you don’t know.We’re all trying to make sense of the most recent Provincial announcements regarding the stay at home orders and updated regulations.At the City of Burlington, we’re working to understand what it means particularly for City services and programs. Please check Burlington.ca/coronavirus for updates.If you have specific questions regarding how these new provincial regulations may affect your personal circumstances, please reach out to your local Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) and Halton Public Health at 311, as they will be in the best position to answer those questions.I will continue providing updates on the senior levels of governments’ vaccination rollout on my website at bit.ly/COVIDVaccineUpdates and recommend you also continually check Halton Region’s dedicated webpage at Halton.ca/covid19 for local updates.We all have a role to play in vaccination efforts, and the City of Burlington stands ready to do our part. Our primary responsibility will be providing facilities and staffing for public vaccine campaigns that will occur in later stages of the vaccine rollout.To plan for those efforts, we have created a City of Burlington COVID-19 Vaccine Coordination Taskforce.
