Warm Hearts & Holiday Wishes: Burlington Mayor Launches 2020 Holiday Fundraiser for Veterans

Help us warm the hearts of our local veteran men and women living in retirement/care homes this holiday season with the Warm Hearts & Holiday Wishes Burlington Mayor's Office 2020 fundraiser.Royal Canadian Legion branches have been hit particularly hard throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Their usual in-person fundraising activities had to be put on hold in order to keep this vulnerable population safe.We owe our veterans an immeasurable debt of gratitude for the freedoms, safety and democracy we get to enjoy today.From Remembrance Day services to fundraising to social activities all year long, our local Legion Branch 60 provides essential support to Burlington’s veterans and their families and helps share their stories.This holiday season, consider dropping off a signed card with a note of holiday wishes and gratitude for a veteran's service, along with a cozy new, moderately-priced blanket and/or slippers.In partnership with our local Legion Branch 60, we will distribute the gifts and cards to Burlington's cherished veterans this December. Any surplus items will be donated to the Legion's Ladies Auxiliary for future distribution.You can drop off your gift and card at the Burlington City Hall lobby weekdays between Nov. 30 and Dec. 11, from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. or email mayor@burlington.ca to arrange an alternative pick-up.This holiday season will be very different for all of our residents, so we're encouraging our community to show their gratitude to our veterans, especially those living in retirement/care homes who have had to limit their social activities during COVID-19.Burlington is known for its generosity and I know those of us who can, will help make the holidays this year a memorable one for all the right reasons.Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays,Mayor Marianne Meed WardCity of Burlington
