What's culture worth? $22 billion & almost 300k jobs

supernovaStatistics Canada recently released the latest information on Provincial and Territorial Culture Gross Domestic Product. The report shows the Ontario culture sector represents $22 billion in GDP and over 278,800 jobs. The culture sector includes: broadcasting, cultural heritage, design, festivals and celebrations, film and video, interactive media, museums, music publishing, performing arts, sound recording, and visual arts.

Within this report, culture is defined as a creative and artistic activity, the goods and services produced by it, and the preservation of heritage.In the same report, sport is defined as an individual or group activity often pursued for fitness during leisure time and that may be undertaken for fun or competition. Sport includes recreational sports and physical activities, as well as professional, semi-professional or amateur sport clubs and independent athletes that are primarily engaged in presenting sporting events before an audience.According to the statistics, culture’s  contribution on Canada’s total GDP was 3.0% and sport’s 0.3%.
