Winners of draw for wood boards from the Spencer Smith Park willow tree announced

As the month of October is coming to a close, we would once again like to thank all of those who participated in the draw for wood planks from the Spencer Smith Park willow trees that were taken down for safety reasons. We'd like to congratulate the following for winning the pieces. There were two draws - one for a public use of the wood, and one for a private use:

Once built, we will endeavour to take pictures of each creation and post them online. To see the first creation from the wood, drop by the public meeting room 247 at City Hall to see a work commissioned by staff that is a lovely combination of wood plank, glass and special design. Many thanks to Jennifer Johnson for making this happen for all residents to enjoy. We cannot wait to see what others have done with the wood!Additionally, we are currently working on an installation of a "cookie" or cross section of the trunk of the tree showing its rings of life. The cookie will be installed in Spencer Smith Park as a piece of art and story, to commemorate the trees, and remind future Burlington residents that these trees will never be forgotten, as they have special meaning for so many of us, in so many different ways.
