Joint Statement on Forming a Tariff Task Force
Statement from Mayor Meed Ward and Deputy Mayors Kelvin Galbraith and Paul Sharman on Forming a Tariff Task Force
This afternoon Mayor Marianne Meed Ward joined Kelvin Galbraith, Deputy Mayor of Business & Red Tape Reduction, and Paul Sharman, Deputy Mayor of Strategy & Budgets, to strike a Tariff Task Force of community stakeholders to respond to the threat of potential tariffs imposed by the United States.
The Mayor has also directed the city’s Chief Financial Officer to review current and pending city contracts to determine options for Buy Canadian, and further asked the Head of Corporate Affairs to create a Buy Canadian online resource for our community.
Though a temporary 30-day reprieve from tariffs was announced this week, Burlington must be ready to respond should the tariffs take effect. Today’s announcement enables staff to take full advantage of the time afforded by this reprieve to prepare a response.
