There are three standing committees every member of Council sits on that convene monthly, including:
- Community Planning Regulation and Mobility (CPRM);
- Corporate Services Strategy Risk and Accountability (CSSRA); and
- Environment Infrastructure and Community Services (EICS).
Audit Committee includes citizen representatives, and two members of Council sit on that committee.TWO-STEP DECISION PROCESSThere is a two-step decision process at the City of Burlington. Items come to their respective committees for robust discussion among committee members and recommendations are carried to a monthly Council meeting, where Council members vote whether or not to ratify the recommendations made by committee.Agendas for committee and Council meetings are released to the public online at events.burlington.ca/meetings approximately 10 days before the date of the meeting.JOINING THE DISCUSSIONThe City of Burlington offers hybrid committee and council participation, meaning Council members can choose to attend in Council Chambers or remotely.Members of the public can also attend and/or participate in meetings in-person or virtually as well. If there is a particular item or issue on a committee or Council agenda that you want to provide your feedback and input on, you can do so by registering to delegate in-person at Council Chambers or virtually, or you can provide written submissions to the Clerks Department.Written or requests for delegations for City committee and Council meetings can be made to the City Clerk at clerks@burlington.ca or by calling 905-335-7600, ext. 7481.If delegates have speaking notes and/or PowerPoint presentations they want to share with committee or Council, they can submit by noon (12 p.m.) the day before the meeting. If the meeting is on a Monday, speaking notes and presentations must be submitted by noon (12 p.m.) on the Friday before the meeting.We recommend that you include your intended remarks in your speaking notes and presentations. These will be circulated to all members of the standing committee in case any technology disruptions occur.You can find presentation tips, some frequently-asked-questions (FAQs) and learn more about the meeting process, by visiting the City's 'Speak at a Meeting' webpage.The public can also watch live webcasts of virtual Burlington Committee and Council meetings at events.burlington.ca/meetings. Links to watch the live webcast appear under the calendar date of a meeting about a half hour before the start time.SUBMITTING A PETITIONThe Office of the City Clerk accepts petitions related to matters listed on an upcoming standing Committee agenda.A petition is a written request signed by more than one member of the public in support of a shared cause or concern.
