Burlington City Hall Flags at Half-Mast for Passing of Ellen Irmisch of the Tartan Terrors

If you passed by Burlington City Hall today, you'll have noticed our flags were at half mast — they were lowered today (Tuesday, Aug. 6) after learning of the passing of Ellen Wilkes Irmisch of the Tartan Terrors and in recognition of her contributions to our City.Burlington has lost a champion of arts and culture in our community, a compassionate person who always gave back to make our city better. She has continued that even still with a GOFundMe page that she requested be posted after her passing to help gift her fellow Tartan Terrors with new kilts and equipment."I want the Tartan Terrors to continue bring music, laughter and joy to those around the world," she wrote. "If you can contribute in anyway so my memory will live on with them."Ellen built on the legacy of performing arts started by her parents — including a summer camp on the family home that my own kids attended a long time ago. I was honoured to have met Sue and Ellen Irmish.The Irmish family, in the name of K. W. Irmish, sponsors the Arts Person of the Year award at the annual Burlington’s Best Awards.
