Flags Lowered at Burlington City Hall for U.S. Mass Shootings in El Paso and Dayton
I was horrified when I first learned of the two mass shootings that took place in the U.S. this past weekend in less than 24 hours.News reports have stated 22 people were gunned down in El Paso, Texas, with 24 others injured, and then hours later and more than 2,500 kilometres away, another gunman killed nine people in Dayton, Ohio and injured another 27.Our hearts continue to grieve with those who were injured, those traumatized, their families, their communities, and the first responders. The best time to act to bring an end to gun violence was years ago — the second best time to act is now.The flags at Burlington City Hall are lowered today as we share in mourning of these senseless and savage tragedies in El Paso and Dayton.— Mayor Marianne Meed Ward
