Burlington Mayor Advocates to Keep Canal Piers Open

Residents may have read in an article today in the Hamilton Spectator that the federal government is considering blocking public access to the canal piers on both the Hamilton and Burlington sides of the lift bridge.Several weeks ago, I was given a heads up by our local Burlington MP The Honourable Karina Gould that closing public access was under discussion.I conveyed, at that time, this is not something I or the city would support. MP Gould and I have been working to arrange a conversation with the Minister of Transportation, the Hon. Marc Garneau, to convey this message and find alternative solutions. To that end, this week we sent this letter to Ministers Gould and Garneau: Letter to Minister Garneau and Minister Gould Dec 2 2020.We will keep advocating to keep the piers open and will report back to the community when there is more to share.-- Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed WardRELATED LINKS:
