The CWA, led by co-founders Nancy Gray and Andrew Hibma, partnered with New Hope Community Bikes (NHCB) and started in Hamilton in 2020 with the purchase of a specialized electric bikes that can be piloted by one cyclist, and provide a cycling experience to up to two 'cycling passengers' in the rickshaw style seating mounted in front of the handlebars. Hence the name Tri (3) Shaw (rickshaw).Completely donation- and volunteer-driven, the community-run program was able to purchase a second trishaw that enabled the group to expand the program into Burlington in 2022. The relationship is between NHCB and the City of Burlington, with NHCB providing trishaws and all associated maintenance and training, and regional program administration provided by CWA co-founders and volunteers, and the NHCB.
