LPAT upholds City of Burlington's approval of 20-townhome development at 607 Dynes Road

The Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT) has released its decision on an appeal of the City of Burlington’s decision to approve Official Plan and Zoning By-law amendments to allow a 20-unit townhouse development at 607 Dynes Road and Maplehill Drive. The Tribunal upheld the City’s decision to approve this application and dismissed the appeals filed related to the case.Twenty townhouses spanning four blocks (on a 0.54 hectare/1.33 acre property) was approved, which would result in a density of 37 units per hectare. The Tribunal listed among its reasons for its decision: consistency with provincial policies, and conformity with the Provincial Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe, the Region of Halton's Official Plan (OP) and City of Burlington's OP. I did not vote for the project but supported a scaled back proposal with less density and access directly to Dynes — not through a quiet cul-de-sac. We need to do better to work with residents, staff and applicants to get projects everyone can support.
