Moon in June Road Race Celebrates 30th Year in Burlington on June 4

The Moon in June Road Race is entering its 30th year in the City of Burlington on Saturday, June 4, 2022!Making this year’s event that much more special will be the opportunity to join or support our great friend Gordon Schottlander during his “Gordon’s Great K.” At 97, Gordon is not only a Burlington resident, D-Day veteran and active community member, but he also is a 2020 Burlington Key to the City recipient -- we are excited that he will be taking part in this year’s Moon in June race.Other features of this year’s race include new finishing medals, limited edition T-shirts, live entertainment, and food and refreshments. For 30 years, Moon in June has supported local charities and is one of the longest standing and charitable race events in Halton Region. Over its tenure, organizers have donated more than $1 million to local charities! The Moon in June course is a flat, fast one-loop certified 5km and 2 loop certified 10km  in downtown Burlington. The route highlights our fabulous Burlington Waterfront and downtown core.In addition to the event being an excellent chance for some physical activity, proceeds support the Radius Child and Youth Services. The organization is aiming to raise $30,000 this year to alleviate the 2-year waitlist for services that occurred as a result of the pandemic and lockdowns. This great event includes something fun for everyone including Meredith’s Fun Run 1K for kids that has always been a family favourite. For the more advanced, there is the option to run 5k or 10k.COVID-19 protocols will be in place to ensure a safe and healthy event for all. If you’d prefer to avoid crowds, you are more than welcome to run/walk your own race on Friday (June 3), Saturday (June 4), or Sunday (June 5). The event begins at 4 p.m. with the Kidz Fest then running longer into the evening for any participants from Burlington City Hall, 426 Brant St.You can also contribute to the cause by sponsoring your favorite runner or to the cause directly. More details regarding this event are on the Moon in June website at www.mooninjune.ca
