Residents encouraged to attend OMB hearing May 1 on Pinedale towers and register as participants

Residents are being encouraged to attend and register as participants in the Ontario Municipal Board hearing May 1 on the proposed towers at 5111 New St. (Appleby Mall).  That was the takeaway from a recent Ward 5 Town Hall where discussion of the application took up much of the evening. The OMB hearing begins at 10am, in Room 247 at City Hall. Anyone can attend and listen.By registering as a participant, residents gain the right to share their views with the board about the proposal. The board considers this feedback in making a decision. There is no cost to participate, however you must attend in person to register; alternatively, you can send another participant with a letter to be given to the board expressing your interest in participating.Participant statements are usually heard at the end of the hearing, after evidence has been presented by the parties to the hearing (in this case the applicant and the city). The 5111 New St application proposes two towers fronting onto Pinedale:

  • 12 storey building with 132 units
  • 17 storey building with 192 units

The applicant ran into servicing issues that stalled the application. They recently appealed the proposal to the board on the grounds of non-decision by the city within the legislated time frame.More information about the application is available on the city's webpage dedicated to this proposal: 5111 New St.You can also contact the planner on the file:Name: Suzanne McInnesMailing Address:426 Brant St.,Burlington, ONL7R 3Z6Email: suzanne.mcinnes@burlington.caPhone: 905-335-7600, ext. 7555
