Share feedback at April 2 public meeting for Georgian Court development application in Burlington's Ward 1

The public is invited to attend the Statutory Public Meeting for the Georgian Court development application on April 2.The application, submitted by bcIMC Realty Corporation, includes 610 and 611 Surrey Lane, 865 King Road, 615 and 699 Marley Road, and 847, 871, 894 and 917 Warwick Drive. It is proposing 1,450 residential rental units within a mix of townhouse, mid-rise and high-rise buildings.Proposal details:

  • This proposal affects 8.4 hectares of land on the east side of King Road, south of Plains Road East. The area currently contains 280 rental townhouse units. The redevelopment proposes the successive demolition of the existing townhouse units and replacing them new apartments and townhouse blocks.
  • A total of 1,450 new rental units are proposed, with a mix of townhouses and mid- and high-rise apartment buildings. Low-rise street townhouses and back-to-back townhouses of up to three storeys are proposed along the outer perimeter of the site. Mid-rise buildings of generally up to eight storeys, with one at 11 storeys, are proposed central to the site to frame a new central park area. Three taller buildings of 16, 19 and 20 storeys are proposed at the northern portion of the site.  A total of 200 townhouse units are proposed (all three-bedroom units) along with 1,250 apartment units.

The property is currently zoned ‘Residential - Medium Density (RM2)’ and designated Residential – Medium Density, which allows for either ground or non-ground oriented housing units within a density range of 26-50 units per net hectare. The developer is looking for amendments to increase the permitted density and height, and incorporate site-specific development standards. The public meeting on Tuesday, April 2 starts at 6:30 p.m., inside Council Chambers at Burlington City Hall. The staff report will be available to the public online a week before the meeting at burlington.ca/calendar.Since this is a statutory public meeting, you do not have to register in advance to speak, but if you wish to do so, you can register online at www.burlington.ca/delegation or contact Jo-Anne Rudy, Committee Clerk at 905-335-7600, ext. 7413 or Jo-Anne.Rudy@burlington.ca. I want to let residents and the community know, I am looking into what tools we would have available to protect low-income residents during and after the transition period.
