Statement from Burlington Mayor Meed Ward on Extending Closures of Outdoor Activities with Stay-at-Home Order to June 2

You can read a copy of my Mayor's Statement here.--The Province of Ontario and Premier Doug Ford announced today the provincially-mandated Stay-at-Home order has been extended to June 2, with no changes to the current permissions around outdoor activity. I know this is frustrating for many of us to hear. I am disappointed outdoor amenities will remain closed, and I will continue to advocate for their safe reopening as soon as possible.We understand there is still some ways to go to get case counts and hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) levels down to less concerning levels and understand the need for continued restrictions.However, as all of Halton’s Mayors and Regional Chair -- along with many others in the scientific and health communities -- have stated, our residents need access to more safe and healthy outdoor activities to maintain our physical and mental well-being, especially for our youth.Our young people, in particular, should not be penalized because of concerns over how some adults may take advantage of and part in outdoor activities.We will continue to strongly advocate for immediate reopening of outdoor amenities that allow people to maintain physical distance while getting exercise and fresh air.I encourage our residents to keep checking our City of Burlington webpage dedicated to Provincial Emergency and Stay-at-Home updates and Burlington.ca/coronavirus, as well as the Province’s dedicated webpage detailing any changes to its Emergency and Stay-at-Home order.If you or someone you know is in need of free supports for mental health, food or finances, please visit our City of Burlington COVID-19 Community Resources Page.Additional information:
